Lion receives treatment at Masaai Mara National Reserve.

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) veterinary team has administered a second round of treatment on a wounded lion in the Mara Conservancy.

The lion, named Lorkulup meaning a majestic lion, was wounded a fortnight ago from a suspected snake bite.

"The lion was observed with a swollen upper lip and mildly infected lower lip with sloughed-off tissue," KWS said.

"He was given thorough wound cleaning, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatory medication."

"Despite the injuries, Lorkulup is in good condition and our dedicated team will continue to monitor his progress."

During the first round of treatment, the lion's head was swollen and he struggled to breathe due to the poisonous bite

At the time the vet team used a dart gun to deliver anti-inflammatory medication to the distressed lion.

Using a dart gun, the KWS Mara vet team delivered anti-inflammatory medication to Lorkulup.

KWS said that after the treatment the Lion began to experience relief and his breathing eased as the swelling diminished.

The lion was since reunited with his brother and was projected to be on a promising path towards recovery.

KWS  reiterated that it remains committed to the welfare of Kenya’s wildlife.
