On the radar: Linturi to know fate as MPs hold special sitting on ouster

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi will today know his fate.

The 11-member select committee chaired by Marsabit woman representative Naomi Waqo will present its report today.

During today's special sitting the committee will issue a notice of motion for the consideration of the report.

If the select committee reports that it finds the allegations are unsubstantiated, no further proceedings shall be taken.

If the Select Committee finds the allegations are substantiated, the National Assembly shall allow the Cabinet Secretary to be heard.

The National Assembly should conclude the debate on the report of the Select Committee within 14 days of the giving of the Notice of Motion for the adoption of the Committee’s report.

The House shall set a date on which the CS shall appear before the House to provide further clarifications and/or respond to matters arising from the findings of the Committee.

Schools reopening

Schools are set to reopen beginning today for the start of the second term.

This follows a two-week disruption of the calendar following the floods that were witnessed in various parts of the country.

Schools were to reopen on May 29.

President William is set to attend the official school opening parade at Lenana school in Dagoretti South.

Tree planting exercise

Attorney General Justin Muturi is set to lead a tree-planting exercise at Ngong Hills in Kajiado.

His office has been assigned the second Monday of every month for this purpose. 

This return to the area comes barely two days after the national tree-growing exercise, during which he announced that they planted 3,000 tree seedlings.

Muchai case

The hearing of six charged with the murder of former Kabete MP George Muchai resumes today.

Savula case

The hearing of Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula in the Sh140 million advertising tender theft is scheduled to proceed today.

On February 5 this year, Former ICT Principal Secretary Sammy Itemere who was also implicated in the case was set free by the courts.

This was after the ODPP made a withdrawal application, stating that a review of the charges against 13 found insufficient evidence to sustain the charges.

But the trial against Savula is going on.

Echesa's Sh39 billion fake arms deal case

The court is set to issue directions in a case in which four businessmen are charged alongside former sports CS Rashid Echesa over fraud in the Sh39 billion fake arms deal.

The four are Daniel Omondi alias General Juma, Kennedy Mboya, Crispin Odipo and Clifford Onyango.
