That is per Article 118.
You know Parliament does not exist in vain. We want to look at it, review, amend and enrich some of those proposals.
Because if we pass those proposals then they will even alter the structure of government, which brings the question: Are we going to a referendum or not? Because there are some areas that might touch on the structure of government as has been envisaged by the Constitution in amendments through popular initiative or parliamentary initiative.
We are yet to see the report but I urge them to take their time and do public participation, give us their report and ensure that the bills that are proposed are constitutionally sound.
Also they should ensure the practicability and cost of implementing the report, and whether some of those changes can be implemented now or we do them gradually.
Those are the processes by Nadco and, in any case, some of those issues have been captured in some of the ongoing legislation businesses in the House.
I am aware the Nadco joint team is yet to meet. They were given 45 days, meaning they remain with over 20 days so they can still meet and review and give the report back to the House.
Let us wait until the 45 days are over, so that they tell us what was the challenge – that is, if they fail to produce the report at the deadline.
They can decide in the last two days to do their report. You know, Parliament also has a number of businesses to transact and members of that committee are also members of some committees where they have business to transact.
There is no rush. Let the committee do justice to the report. And let us not anticipate failure when they are within the timelines given to them by the two Speakers of the National Assembly and the Senate.
