Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has stepped up his public engagements as he endears himself to the opposition as the best alternative ahead of 2027 polls.

The Azimio principal has lined up a two-day back-to-back campaign in Kwale days after holding similar engagements in Kisii, Nyamira and Migori counties.

“The Wiper leader Dr Kalonzo Musyoka will tour the Coastal region where he will be in Lamu County from Saturday to Sunday,” Wiper head of Communications Paloma Gatabaki said in a dispatch to newsrooms.

On Saturday, the Azimio co-principla will be in Kwale, where he will  open Wiper offices and address rallies, among other things.

According to the scheduled shared with the media houses, the Wiper boss will at 10am preside over the launch of the of the party’s offices at Kinondo.

He will then have a meet-the-people tour in Msambweni before addressing a rally at Lunga Lunga.

On Sunday, the former vice president will start his day with a church service at Redeemed Gospel Church in Diani, Lamu county.

He will then attend a crusade at the Ukunda Farmers stadium as he winds up his tour of the coastal region.

Kalonzo has recently scaled up his public engagements traversing the country four years to the general election.

The enhanced activities comes at a time the Wiper leader is daring President William Ruto for a 2027 duel. He has pledged to make him a first-term President.

In Kenya’s post-independence history, all presidents have served at least two terms.

Speaking during a funeral in Kyamuthei, Makueni, the Wiper leader accused the Kenya Kwanza government of buying loyalty from Kenyans .

"Kenya is back to the harambee times against Chapter Six of the Constitution," Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo has previously faced criticism as a politician who only campaigns in his Eastern region, while expecting to appeal to the entire country.

“You know Wiper NEC (national executive council) gave him the greenlight to start moving across the country, that is exactly what he is doing and expect more such engagements,” Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo told the Star.

“He will be in all the 47 counties to give his alternative agenda to the people of Kenya.”

The former VP, who has sacrificed his bid for 15 years, believes that 2027 is his best chance to be the joint Azimio candidate.

Kalonzo has been Raila’s running mate twice: in 2013 and 2017, and was integral in the ODM leader's 2022 presidential campaign.

In what appears to be payback for the support, Raila has recently heaped praises on the Wiper leader, describing him as mature politician who deserve backing for the top seat.
