Parents in Nandi want teachers involved in aiding candidates to cheat in national examinations to be punished if found guilty.

About 500 KCSE candidates from three high schools in Nandi County had their examination results withheld by KNEC after detecting cheating in their respective results.

Fearful of the impending consequences of cheating by the candidates, parents are now laying blame on the examination centre managers for the vice that could result in forcing their children to repeat and sit for 2024 KCSE.

Nandi parents led by Solomon Mutai and Rebecca Rono whose children's KCSE 2023 results have been withheld by KNEC, said they have been devastated by the actions.

“The government should take decisive actions on those behind this cheating menace because they have placed us in an awkward position…we know what our children were going to get,” an agitated Rono said.

Nandi county had three high schools whose examination results are being withheld.

They include Samoei boys high school in the Nandi-Hills sub-county, Aldai girl’s in the Aldai sub-count and St.Marys’ Tachasis girls’ in the Tinderet sub-county.

The candidates' results were withheld as KNEC kicked off investigations into allegations of cheating by 4,000 candidates nationally whose results have not been declared.

“We know the ultimate consequences for cheating, however, the principals in the respective schools are squarely to blame,” Mutai noted.

Education officials in Nandi were tight-lipped over the withholding of the results instead calling for calm and having the matter be conclusively dealt with by the relevant state agencies.

Samoei boys had 295 candidates in 2023, while St.Mary’s Tachasis had 225 while Aldai girls had 145.

The fate of the candidates remains with the KNEC and the Ministry of Education.

Several high schools in Nandi surprised many after posting extraordinary results in the 2023 KCSE examination results.

Sub-county like Tulwo girls and the neighbouring Chepterwai girls were in a class of their own after posting 9.25 and 7.7 mean scores respectively.

The two institutions challenged giant national and established extra-county schools whose catchments are big.

Nandi-Hills MP Benard Kitur protested over the decision to hold the results saying Samoei boy's high school is in the heart of the people of Nandi-Hills constituency.

He demanded that the results be unconditionally released to the respective candidates.
