Turkana County has been sent into mourning following the death of Lakezone MCA, Michael Egialan Ekwar.
He passed away on Sunday night while undergoing treatment at St Luke's Hospital in Eldoret.
In a statement on Tuesday, Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai sent a message of condolence to the family, friends, and constituents of the last legislator.
He eulogised the late MCA as a dedicated public servant whose passion and diligence in service to his constituents, will be greatly missed.
“Honourable Egialan had a long and distinguished career as a public servant,” the Governor said.
“He will be remembered as a dedicated leader who was committed to helping his people," Lomorukai added.
The County Assembly of Turkana paid tribute to the colleague, eulogising him as a dedicated public servant, who made significant contributions to the county and the nation at large during his lifetime.
Egialan served as an Assistsnt Chief for the Kokuro Sub Location and later moved to become the Chief for the Ngisiger Location.
He then rose to the position of senior chief during the late President Daniel Moi's regime.
"His dedication and integrity were evident throughout his long and distinguished career in the public service," read the statement further.
Upon his retirement from the provincial Administration, Egialan joined politics and was elected as the Chairperson of CDF for Turkana North Constituency for 10 years during the reign of Christopher Nakuleu (2013-2022) as the MP for Turkana North.
During his tenure, the late MCA played a crucial role in spearheading projects and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of our people.
"His leadership and vision have left a lasting impact on our county, and his legacy will be remembered for years to come," reads the statement further.
His colleagues at the assembly also noted that Egialan played an active role in the passage of various legislations and policies that aimed to uplift our community.
He was the Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Pastoral Economy, where he displayed a remarkable level of professionalism in managing the committee's affairs at the assembly
"We assure the family of our support during this period of great sorrow. May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire us to serve our community with the same dedication and commitment that he demonstrated throughout his life," said the assembly.
