The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has announced areas in Nairobi to experience disruptions.
The interruptions will occur due to a complete shutdown of the Ngethu Water Treatment Plant.
It will happen on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 6.00 am to Friday, October 6, 2023, at 12.00 pm.
The shutdown will facilitate the repair of a major leakage on the raw water pipeline between Matara Raw Water Chamber and Ngethu Water Treatment Plant.
It will also involve carrying out scheduled maintenance at the Kiambu reservoir.
The shutdown will be in preparation for the anticipated El Niño phenomenon during the October 2023 short rains.
During the shutdown areas including the whole of Central Business District, the University of Nairobi main campus, Coca-Cola Factory, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, EPZ-Athi river, Mlolongo area, Gatundu and Kiambu towns
Areas along Mombasa Road include South B, and South C and the neighbourhoods include Embakasi Area The whole of the Industrial area.
Areas along Juja road include Mlango Kubwa, the whole of Mathare, Eastleigh Airforce Base, Huruma, Kariobangi, Pangani and Eastleigh
Maringo, Buruburu and the surrounding estates and Bahati along Jogoo Road will be affected.
Areas along the Outer-ring road, Baba Dogo, Dandora, Dandora KCC factory, Umoja Estate 1 and 2, Donholm, Fedha, Tassia, Avenue Park, Nyayo and Embakasi will have water supply interruptions.
Areas along Kangundo Road including Ruai, Kayole, Komarock estate, Mwiki and Njiru will also experience water interruptions.
Areas along Thika Road include Kenya Breweries, Kenyatta University, Githurai, Zimmerman, Kahawa West, Kahawa Barracks, Kasarani, Mwiki, Kahawa Sukari, Kahawa Wendani, Brookside Dairies, Garden Estate and Thome Estate will experience water supply interruptions.
Limuru areas to experience interruptions include Parklands, Ngara area, Aga Khan Hospital, University of Nairobi-School of Law and City Park Area, Gigiri, United Nations-Gigiri and Muthaiga.
Naivasha Road, Kikuyu Road, Kawangware, Riruta/Satellite, Uthiru, Ndwaru Road, Areas along James Gichuru Road, Langata Road and Waiyaki Way, Riverside, Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani and Kileleshwa will also have water supply interruptions.
Areas along Lang'ata Road including Madaraka, Karen, Lang'ata and Kibra and areas will have water supply interruptions.
The water company regretted the inconvenience caused, they said effort will be made to restore the supply of water as soon as possible.
"We request all customers in the affected areas to use water sparingly during the period of interruption," the statement read.
