Former  Citizen TV Journalist Kimani Mbugua has called on Kenyans to help him get his life back on track after leaving hospital.

In a viral video on social media on Sunday, Mbugua said he fell ill in 2020 and was diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder.

"I got out of the hospital last week and I feel my mind has come back to normal and I don't want to go back to the place where I used to be," he said.

Mbugua noted that he is currently homeless as the people who hosted him previously told him to look for somewhere else to live.

"I came to look for somebody else who could host me but I didn't find. I just need your help, " he said.

Mbugua said in the one week he has been out of the hospital, he has already come up with a business plan and his first proposal for a client with a set-up company structure.

He said he is currently looking for a serious business partner who will bring in money to help his idea take off.

He said he did not want to suffer in silence and thus decided to seek help from Kenyans.

"I realised I could suffer in silence and not speak out and be depressed again and go back to drugs. I don't want to go back to drugs," he said.

Mbugua said he has not used drugs for two months and would not want to be back to it again. He said he used to abuse marijuana and cigarettes.

He said he is finally at a point of healing even if he does not have a roof over his head.

He said he lost so much including friends in his journey to recovery.

"I am in a  position where many people are not willing to help, they say they are tired," he said.

He noted that he had even borrowed the phone which he used to take the video seeking help and post it on social media.

"If you want to help me, my email is [email protected]," he said.

Kimani got into the media industry as a 19-year-old when he joined Nation Media Group as a university student in training.

He worked with the radio department at Nation for three years before joining Royal Media Services where he worked for Citizen TV, Inooro fm and Hot 96.
