A man has been arrested for incest in Mwala, Machakos County.

Mwala subcounty police commander Nancy Jerebon said the man was nabbed after repeatedly defiling his stepdaughter at the Muthwani sublocation in Kathama location, Mwala subcounty.

Jerebon said the suspect was arrested on Thursday after the 14-year-old Grade six girl revealed about the ordeal with the stepfather.

"It was reported by an assistant chief in the company of a child aged 14 years that on diverse dates between September 11 and 19th, 2023 she was defiled thrice by her stepfather," Jerebon told the Star by phone hours after the arrest on Thursday.

The matter was reported to the Mbiuni police station as an incest incident report on Thursday at 6.00pm Thursday.

Jerebon said the arrests were made while the minor's mother was away in Machakos town.

"The victim and perpetrator were escorted to Mbiuni Leve 3 hospital where penetration was confirmed," she said.

The police boss said the suspect had been held at Mbiuni police station pending an appearance in court for the offence of incest.

She said they had launched investigations into the incident and will present the suspect in court once the probe is complete.

The arrest comes barely a day since Machakos Woman representative Joyce Kamene condemned high levels of defilement cases in the Mwala subcounty.

Kamene urged the residents including relevant authorities to unite in the war against child abuse, especially defilement, and drug and substance abuse.

“The levels of child abuse in Machakos and especially here in Mwala sub-county is worrying. We must fight against this,” Kamene said.

Kamene addressed the public when she presided over the Water Tanks Project launching event at Mwala Deputy County Commissioner David Tegutwa’s office compound in Makutano Mwa Mwala, Machakos County on Wednesday.
