President William Ruto will on Friday preside over the groundbreaking of County Aggregation and Industrial Park in Nyamira.
On Thursday evening, Trade CS Moses Kuria held a meeting with the County Aggregation and Industrial Park ahead of the event.
"I have this evening held a fruitful sensitization meeting with the Nyamira County Aggregation and Industrial Park Committee, drawn from all the four subcounties ahead of tomorrow's (Friday) groundbreaking ceremony to be presided over by President William Ruto," he said in a statement.
Industrial and aggregation parks are one of the ways the Kenya Kwanza administration is seeking to boost agriculture and create jobs in the country.
In February, President Ruto said the government would allocate Sh1oo million to every county for the construction of Industrial and Aggregation Parks.
The President said the move will enhance Kenya's productivity as the nation is prioritising the consolidation, processing, and value addition of agricultural products.
Nyamira's industrial park which will be located less than five kilometres from the county headquarters will serve as a hub for agricultural processing and manufacturing.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry of Trade, the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) has identified Nyamira as among the two lead counties for the development and promotion of agriculture.
The project will also provide a link between farmers, industries, and the market both nationally and internationally.
“By aggregating agricultural produce and establishing processing facilities within the park, this industrial park will empower the local community access employment opportunities, provide warehousing facility that will be utilized for packaging purposes giving impetus to the County’s mainstay banana production,” the statement reads.
Early this month, Trade CS Kuria announced that all 47 counties will have an industrial park, in 12 months.
Kuria said work has to start immediately because they cannot waste a single day if this is to be achieved.
The CS insisted that this can only be achieved if there is peace in the country.
Kuria had met the governors to review the progress of the County Aggregation and Industrial Parks.
