Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi now says the proposed dialogues between the state and the Opposition will be in vain.
Speaking on Sunday at Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County, Kingi however said President William Ruto's plan is a solution to the issue of the high cost of living.
The plan includes the distribution of farm inputs to farmers, which will spur food production.
"Your Excellency, I don't want to be a prophet of doom, I've never been but I've been in this space long enough to observe something. Nothing will come out of this called talks," he said.
"But something will come out of this plan that the president has."
He added that talks between Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga will not result in lowering the cost of living, rather letting the President implement his plan.
Further, the former Kilifi Governor opined that they could fix the cost of living by having farmers and businesspeople stay committed to their work.
He faulted the anti-government protests for disrupting people's businesses which has in turn disrupted the growth of the economy.
Kingi threw a jibe at the issues raised for discussion including the IEBC, office of the official opposition and two-third gender rule, saying Ruto already addressed the speakers of the houses most of the issues.
He wondered why the issues, which are now pending in both houses of the Parliament, are raised as an agenda in such talks.
"We are already fixing the. We are fixing IEBC. In fact, in the Senate there's a pending Bill on the issue of the two-third gender rule," he said.
Azimio has raised points of discussion including the cost of living, audit of the 2022 Presidential Election Results, restructuring and reconstitution of the IEBC and related matters, measures to prevent interference with political parties, and outstanding constitutional matters - governance issues, adequate checks and balances, and the question of boundaries delimitation.
The Kenya Kwanza team had also listed five issues including the reconstitution of the IEBC Commission, implementation of two-thirds gender rule, entrenchment of Constituency Development Fund and the establishment, entrenchment of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and embedment of the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary.
The talks are set to begin on Monday.
