Deputy President Rigathi Gachagau has warned Cabinet and Principal Secretaries against underperforming in their jobs.
He said when President William Ruto offers someone a job, his friendship with the employee will be based on their performance.
The DP was speaking on Tuesday at State House when CSs and their Principal Secretaries signed performance contracts.
"Once the President gives you a job, that is the termination of that friendship. The friendship with the President will be based on nothing but performance," Gachagua said.
Reminiscing how he supported Ruto during the campaigns, Gachagua clarified that his friendship with the President is no longer based on the past but on his current performance as a Deputy President.
"For me I know, my friendship with the President is not based on my 20-year friendship with him and yet I assisted him in the campaigning," Gachagua said.
"It is based on the performance. And I know if I don't perform, that relationship will be strained."
He urged the CS and PS to execute their tasks efficiently adding that their performance will assist Ruto in fulfilling his promises to Kenyans.
"I want to urge you today when he is here, please perform because the President has a performing contract with Kenyans, and it is your performance that will assist him to fulfil that contract," Gachagua said.
"So let us do what we have to do and let us be efficient."
