Over 300 cows and donkeys have died in Tana River County after drinking water from a dam suspected to be poisonous.
In a video seen by the Star on Tuesday, the residents of Kone village, in Tana Delta in the larger Tana River County are calling upon the government to treat the matter as urgent.
"We do not know what kind of poison that has been put to this water. Even the residents have started experiencing diarrhoea after using the water. We want the authorities to deal with the matter head-on, " a resident said.
The residents are calling upon the government to provide an alternative source of water even as they move quickly to provide a solution.
Another resident said it only takes half an hour for a cow to die after drinking the water, adding that the dead cow lacks blood if slaughtered.
"After thirty minutes when you slaughter the cow you will find that the blood has already dried" he said
The type of poison has however not yet been established..
