The Central Bank of Kenya has invited applications for eligible university graduates for a six-month internship programme to prepare them for employment opportunities in the banking and financial sectors.

The bank says the applications, which are open for graduates aged between 21 and 29 years, will be closed on July 24.

Applicants must have graduated within the last 24 months from the closing date of the advertisement or are awaiting graduation.

"Applicants must provide a recommendation/reference letter from the university attended and should not have undertaken any other internship programme or exposed to work experience related to their area of study since graduating," CBK said in a notice Tuesday.

To qualify for consideration, one must be a holder of a first degree from a recognized university in either Finance, Economics, Statistics, Banking, Accounting, Micro-Finance, Management or Social Sciences, Law, or related discipline or a Master’s degree in a relevant field.

"Opportunities are available in the following functions; Finance, Research, Banking and Payment Services, Human Resources, Communications and Legal Services," CBK said.

The bank said qualification into the programme does not guarantee employment upon completion of the six-month internship.

"However, applicants who complete the programme are allowed to apply for any positions the Bank advertises after completion of the Internship Programme," CBK said.

The bank said successful applicants will be required to complete the six-month internship without a break to fully benefit from the objectives of the programme.

The internship programme seeks to develop a pool of young talent adequately exposed to central and commercial banking operations.

The programme also provides participants with an excellent opportunity to gain workplace experience, expand knowledge, refine career goals and build professional networks, mentors and contacts.

Interested applicants have been warned against canvassing directly or indirectly as this will result in disqualification.
