Kenyans can now start paying for the Housing programme, through the Boma Yangu website, the government has said.
Through an advertisement in the dailies, the state said that payment towards owning a home can be done via Mpesa, USSD or website.
"Upon registration, you can start saving any amount you wish to your account on Boma Yangu," the advert read.
For saving through USSD, one is required to dial *832# on their mobile phone and follow the steps.
To save via M-Pesa, one will use the pay bill number - 005500 and the account number is the one used while registering through the Boma Yangu website.
"You can also view all the available projects on Boma Yangu and add them to your wish list or select them as your preferred unit," the advert said.
One will also select a preferred unit. This means that savings will count towards the 12.5 per cent deposit required for a unit.
"Registration is free, and you must complete your profile by submitting your details and housing preferences (the type of house you are applying for)," the advert read.
Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga had said that every salaried Kenyan will have to contribute 3 per cent toward the project.
The PS said this will ensure the government confidently get investors for the housing plan, with the assurance that they will be able to pay them after construction is done.
"The housing fund is a mandatory contribution by employer and employee... Then as a country, we can go out to the market and call investors and tell them to bring their money, build houses en mass and when they finish building, give us the keys, get paid, and go," he said.
