Former United Democratic Alliance vice chairman Kipruto Kirwa has said Kenya's economy is in dire need of resuscitation.

Speaking during an interview on Wednesday morning, Kirwa said President William Ruto should put in more work in reviving the country’s economy.

He, however, noted that imposing high taxes was not the solution.

"When you are resuscitating an economy, you do not increase taxation. You are supposed to give relief to the people," Kirwa said.

In order to boost the economy, ex- Cherangany MP suggested that President Ruto should create an enabling environment which will allow Kenyans to work in a bid to boost the economy.

"When the people put in more work he could now generate profits which can now go into taxation," Kirwa added.

He reminded the President that the country holds the Kenya Kwanza administration responsible for the statements they made during campaigns.

The government has faced criticism from the opposition as well as the public over the high cost of living.

Opposition chief Raila Odinga has on various occasions told President Ruto that the cost of living needed to be relooked at because at the moment, people are suffering.

He said Kenyans cannot be taxed to the bone just because of Kenya Kwanza’s internal weaknesses.

In addition, Raila has asked President Ruto to institute far-reaching reforms in his administration to tackle the high cost of living.
