I’m convinced that, at some level, the effects of the past, can be overcome. You can write a new story and break the limits imposed on you by past events in three simple steps. Let me explain.
Change Your Association: One strange fact about the past is its bid to become your future. It’s achieved by pillars that anchor you to painful memories and emotions. One of these pillars is people. Yes, people. They become the prison wardens that guard the bars that keep you fastened to the past. These people always talk about what happened to you, how it made you feel, and how the event has shaped your current experiences. Your past is the bond that keeps your relationship going.
To overcome the past, these people must go. Otherwise, your attempt to move forward would be slow or hindered. They keep what happened alive and fresh in your mind. Consciously or not, they evoke old emotions, which in turn, keeps you shackled to old, painful experiences. To move forward, connect with people who are excited about the future. Those who inspire you to write a new, exciting story. It's difficult to build tomorrow in the company of ‘yesterday’ people.
Seek New Experiences: One reason the grip of the past is strong is that it has not been replaced. You change this by engaging in new experiences. Consequently, the old experiences gradually fade into the background as the new emerges. To pull this off, you must proactively seek out new interests. Set new goals, engage in new and exciting activities, go to new places, meet new people, etc. The past is old, it already happened. Now, create the new.
Dream Again: If unchecked, the past steals the future. To prevent this, it's vital to reconnect with your purpose. Open your eyes and see a future filled with joy, hope, and endless possibilities – dream again. Your life did not end in the past. Your future is not worth losing due to what happened to you. An exciting future awaits you. Do you want it? If yes, go for it!
