In my considered view, the current composition of the National Security Council in Kenya appears to be well-balanced and reflective of the diversity of interests and perspectives within the government and security sector.

Any sitting government would constitute such an important body with trusted experts towards ensuring  the country remains secure and stable despite the complex security environment in the region.

The NSC today has people with the knowledge, expertise and ability to build relationships and coordinate efforts that can help identify and respond to threats more effectively.

It will do so by ensuring high-quality intelligence gathering and analysis, This will most likely promote more informed decision-making on complex security issues.

The appointment of Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji as the new intelligence chief will definitely bring immense value and impact in national security.

Based on his background and as a prosecutor, Haji possesses many key attributes of a successful head of national intelligence.

With the right skills and experience, the intelligence chief can help identify potential threats before they become a reality, leading to improved national security.

Haji has worked in the field for many years, developing a deep understanding of both the national and international security environment. He will likely be able to navigate complex security issues, and develop effective strategies to respond to them.

During his tenure as DPP, he pursued high-profile prosecutions related to corruption, terrorism, and other serious crimes. He was widely respected for his commitment to justice and his efforts to strengthen the Kenyan legal system.

Haji's collaboration with intelligence services and law enforcement agencies differed from previous Directors of Public Prosecutions in that he prioritised the sharing of information and resources among these agencies.

He recognised that successful prosecutions require a coordinated effort and worked to build strong partnerships that improved communication and cooperation.

This approach was critical to the success of his high-profile cases and helped to restore public trust in the legal system.

With his appointment as the Director of National Intelligence, the country stands a better chance of dealing with emerging threats to national security as he is a trusted strategist and an experienced leader.
