Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has hailed his former party leader for sacking his Defence counterpart Aden Duale from leadership in 2020.
Going down memory lane on Thursday, Murkomen said that Duale’s loyalty to President William Ruto cost him his position as Majority leader at the National Assembly.
“Uhuru Kenyatta was not wrong to sack you. Because he knew there was no doubt that anything would be plotted against President Ruto and you are going to sit in that room,” he said.
“So you must give him credit, that it is because of your loyalty he had to get you out,” Murkomen added.
On June 22, 2023, the axe fell on Duale as Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta (Jubilee Party leader) orchestrated a purge targeting Ruto's allies.
Duale was kicked out of the Majority leader position.
He served as the first leader of the Majority party in the 11th and 12th Parliaments, until June 2020 when he was replaced with former Kipipiri MP, Amos Kimunya.
Ruto who was the then Deputy President told his loyalist not to worry after the ouster as the journey ahead was better.
"My brother Aden Duale, you are a great leader. My friend, when parliamentary history is written you will have a chapter. The future is fine with God," Ruto told Duale.
However, Murkomen said that while serving as Majority leader, Duale remained loyal and committed to Uhuru.
The CS said that Duale remained consistent and that is the kind of leadership one ought to demonstrate.
“But even in the hardest moment, there was no day that Duale betrayed Uhuru Kenyatta. Not a single day agenda of the government that he sabotaged even if he believed that the Uhuru was not supporting his deputy,” Murkomen said.
