Human rights activists fighting for Children's rights in Bungoma County have urged Governors to allocate funds to support children's programs in the county.

Speaking at Xavarian brothers’ school in Bungoma County during the Children’s assembly, David Lupao, Chairman of Bungoma County Children Rights Network (BCCRN) said that many children are undergoing diverse challenges and there is a need for the county governments to allocate resources to support children programs.

Lupao affirmed that the Children’s Assembly gives children the power to speak up and report harassment cases to the relevant authorities for action.

He said that the challenges that children undergo include; child labour, child trafficking, female genital mutilation, defilement and child abuse.

Lupao said that BCCRN is a Community-based organization that fights for the rights of the children in Bungoma County.

Lupao however called on parents and guardians to invest in their children's future noting that Bungoma has been on a bad record due to the high numbers of teen pregnancies and gender-based violence.

Lupao said that if the county governments allocate funds towards children's programs, it should improve their nutrition, health and education.

Nabakwe Naube, Bungoma County Children’s officer said that the children's assembly happens in the entire country when schools are closed.

He added after three days of meeting children, they develop a memorandum and present it to both the county and national governments.
