Foreign and Diaspora Affairs CS Alfred Mutua has encouraged Kenyans to apply for jobs in the US.

This comes after the US pledged to set up a framework to help Kenyans apply for jobs and speedily acquire visas to work there.

"Mbele iko Sawa. The United States is also working on modalities to speed up visa processing at the Nairobi embassy to reduce the long waiting times," he said.

The call comes after Mutua met with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, for strategic bilateral talks in Washington DC.

Among the issues discussed and agreed on in Kenya's favour are jobs and visas, upgrading the UN office in Nairobi and Youth and SMEs.

The US committed to upgrading the UN office in Nairobi to international standards.

Kenya is the only country hosting a UN headquarter outside the West. Other offices are situated in New York, Geneva and Vienna.

The UN Office in Nairobi was established by the General Assembly in 1996.

On Youth and SMEs, the two governments discussed partnerships in supporting youth programmes, empowering Kenya's SME's and growing wealth.

During the talks, the Bottom Up economic model was acknowledged as a fantastic and viable model.

The third US-Kenya bilateral strategic dialogue led to discussions on over 50 specific issues which were also agreed on.

"Kenya is the only African country with this Strategic Bilateral Dialogue with the United States and we view the US as a great friend and partner," CS Mutua said.

He lauded Blinken, the Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Molly Phee and US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman for welcoming the team from Kenya.

Mutua was accompanied by Trade CS Moses Kuria.
