The Ministry of Education will offer free treatment for students who were involved in an accident along a Nairobi-Naivasha highway.

The students from Mbihi high school were leaving Vihiga for Nairobi when the accident occurred.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu said the government will cater for the seven students who were injured.

“The Ministry will ensure that the best free medical treatment is offered to the hospitalised students under the Edu Afya health insurance scheme for secondary school learners,” Machogu said in a statement.

Machogu consoled the families that lost five of the students.

“The insurance cover will also cater for funeral expenses for all the deceased students,” he said.

Machogu added that three of the seven students were found to be in need of critical medical care.

They were rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the Kenyatta National Hospital where they are currently admitted to.

“In Naivasha, one learner was picked up by her parents from the Sub-County hospital while three others were retained for further doctors’ overnight observation,” he added.
