Kisumu Govenor Anyang Nyong'o was missing in action during Thursdays protests in Kisumu.

On Monday, he led the residents on a march towards Nyamasaria area away from the Kisumu CBD but today, he was nowhere to be seen.

The governor had on Wednesday suspended the demos immediately before recanting his statement the same day stating that after wider consultation, the demos were to go on.

The demos were being led by Kisumu deputy governor Mathews Owili, Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron, and Seme MP James Nyikal amongst other local leaders.

The leaders marched towards Kachok area to Nyamasaria area to keep their promise to ensure that no protests are taken within the CBD.

A spot check by the Star, saw several businesses remain closed as the transport sector were also paralysed within the lakeside city.

Roadblocks were erected along the major streets in areas of Kondele, Kachok and even Jua Kali amongst others.

From Kondele, another team of protestors were marching toward town but were repulsed by police at the Patel flats roundabout.

At Kachok roundabout, the locals were also not able to access the CBD as officers stayed put.

However, some of the residents near Patel's roundabout engaged the police in running battles even as they hurled stones at the officers while others used a big catapult to throw stones at the officers within the area.

The officers also lobbied teargas canisters at the protestors to disperse them, turning into a cat-and-mouse game.

However in Jua Kali area, there was action witnesses as police lobbed teargas canisters to disperse some of the locals that were protesting from that far end.
