Officers recover 2 AK 47 rifles in Baringo

Multi-agency security officers in Baringo have recovered two firearms from Nawe Village in Barkateu Sub-Location.

In a statement by the National Police Service on Monday, the AK 47 rifles were surrendered by elders on Sunday.

"We urge the residents of Baringo County to sustain our ongoing engagements aimed at restoring peace and stability in the County," the NPS said.

It added that Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift is ongoing, saying the deployment of new strategies has provided the necessary impetus for meeting its intent.

The operation is aimed at ending banditry in the area.

Alongside Baringo, the affected counties include Laikipia, West Pokot, Samburu, Elgeyo Marakwet and Turkana. 

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki pledged to ensure that all illegal guns in the Rift region are recovered.

"In the days and months ahead, we shall collect every illegal gun, and every weapon in the hands of criminals, whether by voluntary surrender or by force," he said.
