Narok Senator Ledama Olekina

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has waded into the ongoing Jubilee party wrangles.

Speaking on Thursday, he said that the Uhuru Kenyatta-led party does not constitute a parliamentary party despite the number of times they visit State House.

Ledama called out President William Ruto, accusing him of trying to control parliament.

"Stop this cannibalization of political parties! Jubilee Senators do not constitute a parliamentary party as per our standing orders so snap out of it," he said.

The Senator further urged Ruto to work for  Kenyans and prove Azimio La Umoja One coalition wrong.

The Deputy Minority whip had earlier said that if President  Ruto continues with his recent activities, he will kill democracy in the country.

Ledama, who was reacting to recent political developments where the president has been meeting MPs allied to the opposition, said soon parliament will also be rendered powerless.

President Ruto seems to have managed to convince Jubilee MPs and a section of ODM to support his agenda.

The move is seen as one that will hand the President total control of the two houses of parliament.

The pro-Ruto MPs from within the Jubilee party have been fighting to have the party join the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

"As a student of political sciences, I am reminded of Rousseau’s assertion in his social contract that only the people, who are sovereign, have that all-powerful right to legislate and not monarch!" Ledama said

"Soon and very soon debate in parliament will die, rules will mean nothing and Ruto will legislate. With a supermajority in parliament, he won’t need the consent of the people to rule, protection of basic rights and the promotion of basic common good of society will be at his mercy," he added.
