Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has urged the Kenya Kwanza government to provide the requisite funds for the proper management of devolved units.
Speaking on Wednesday, Natembeya said the national government should not hold back funds for devolved functions.
“We are saying give us all those things, as you give us functions let them be followed by funds. Do not just give one and retain the other,” Natembeya said.
Natembeya said the government is yet to fully devolve some vital functions and urged the state to act in haste and completely devolve functions for effective service delivery to Kenyans.
“There are so many other functions that are supposed to be devolved that are still with the national government, from the Ministry of Health to Agriculture. In fact, the fertiliser subsidy programme is supposed to be a county function,” he said.
His remarks come days after the President met governors for a national and county government coordinating summit in Naivasha.
The summit tackled revenue allocation an issue that has in the recent past created a stalemate between the Treasury and the governors.
The summit saw some governors express optimism that the current impasse on revenue allocation will be resolved.
where governors have called for an allocation of Sh425 billion against the Treasury’s offer of Sh383 billion would be solved.
