Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has said that security agencies are alert to ensure al-Shabaab militants don't cross into the country.

The CS said the government has stepped up boarder patrols and surveillance in efforts to bring down threats brought about by terrorists.

"We have stepped up our boarder patrols and upped our surveillance on the proliferation of illicit arms, narcotic drugs and substances. We have improved on our intelligence gathering to stay steps ahead of the enemy," Kindiki said.

Speaking on Thursday, Kindiki added that the current crackdown on al Shabaab in Somalia has weakened the terror group.

He said the crackdown is spearheaded by the local community in Somalia and the Federal Government of Somalia.

"Our security agencies are alert to ensure these militants do not cross into our territory and are determined to keep away this terror group, now that it is at its weakest ever."

Kindiki  also announced that the government has established a High-Level Counter Banditry Land and Air Team (LAT) complete with a Situation Room at the Ministry Headquarters to oversight daily progress in the fight against cattle rustling.

“The government is investing in community-based intelligence, drone surveillance technology, modern personal protection equipment for our security personnel and application of land and air assets to neuter bandits and rustlers,” he said .

The CS insisted that his ministry must silence the guns in the North of our country.
