Two teenage boys drowned on Monday in Oloolera village, Kajiado county while playing.

The two identified as Timothy Tumanka, 18, and Mathew Meiken, 17, were swimming in Olenarau river.

They were in the company of their elder siblings as they herded cattle, when they decided to swim.

Police who cited a witness said one of the boys accidentally entered the deeper side of the river and started to drown.

His brother dashed into the water in efforts to save him but he also drowned.

Police were called to the scene and retrieved the bodies hours later.

The bodies were moved to a local mortuary pending autopsy and further processing.

Such incidents are common on most rivers in the area amid calls for caution from parents of the children who are mostly affected.
