Man charged with robbing French tourist Sh40,000 cash

He was also charged with a second count of handling goods suspected to have been stolen

A man has been charged at a Kibera court for robbing a French national of Sh40,000, a diplomatic card, French novel, notebook, key and laptop among other items worth Sh350,000, at gunpoint in Nairobi. 

According to the charge sheet, Stephen Elvuna Opiyo committed the offence on September 29 along Chania lane in Nairobi.

He was armed with a pistol.

He was also charged with a second count of handling goods suspected to have been stolen, the property of Dobransky Aurelia contrary to the penal code.

The French national was walking along Chamia lane with her eight-year-old daughter when she was attacked and robbed.

He denied the charges and was released on Sh500,000 bond. 

The court directed that the matter be mentioned on November 14.
