Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives in Machakos are investigating an incident where an inmate died in a suspected case of Cholera outbreak at Machakos G.K Prison.

Maluki Nzioka is said to have died on Sunday, November 6, after he suddenly complained of stomach problems.

Police sources told the Star that the deceased was pronounced dead on arrival at Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

"Nzioka who was facing a defilement offence suffered stomach disorder. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Machakos Level 5 Hospital, " an officer told the Star on phone on Monday.

He said the deceased had been remanded at Machakos G.K Prison since his case was still ongoing.

"My office is currently investigating an incident where one prisoner died yesterday, " a senior sleuth said.

Independent sources told the Star that 50 prisoners at the same institution could be affected by the Cholera outbreak.
