Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka has said that only 20 pilots reported for duty even as the strike enters day three.

Kilavuka commended them for supporting the airline's operations.

The CEO said they have already started disciplinary action for the pilots who have defied orders of coming back to work.

“There are no negotiations because they are sabotaging the work. If they don't come to work, how will we get money to pay them?” he posed.

The CEO said disciplinary was not in bad faith as the pilots unlawfully went on strike.

He also said 132 pilots have registered as unfit to fly.

This means that unwell to fly and part of the CBA, are allowed to do so for 48hrs without providing evidence.

“This is abnormal because they all cannot be unwell. They want to protect themselves from disciplinary actions,” Kivaluka said.

Earlier in the day, the airline announced a pilot vacancy.

KQ advertised the position of a First Officer to support the pilot in command to ensure the aircraft is operated per the conditions laid down in the airline’s operations manual.

The CEO has called on interested pilots countrywide to apply for the position.

However, the Kenya Airline Pilots Association has maintained that it will withdraw its services.

This is despite the  24-hour  ultimatum and the threat of being sacked.

KALPA secretary general Captain Murithi Nyagah said KQ should stop doing negotiations via the press and meet them at the table.

“Their style of doing negations doesn't exist. KQ needs to come to the table, we talk, negotiate and agree because peddling lies through the media won't solve anything,” he said.

On Monday the national carrier resumed some of its scheduled regional and local flights and one international.

According to the airline, there are 18 flights scheduled today alone, 9 of which were departing from Nairobi to Lusaka, Harare, Johannesburg,  London, Addis Ababa, Entebbe, Mombasa, and  Dar es Salaam.

In a statement over the weekend, 12,000 passengers' travel had been disrupted, 56 flights were cancelled and over 500 passengers had been booked in hotels across the city.

At least 388 pilots downed their tools on Saturday after talks initiated by Transport and Labour Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen failed to yield any outcome.
