Cabinet Secretary nominee for Labour and Social Protection Florence Chepngetich Koske-Bore has promised to address the issue of innocent Kenyans being mistreated in Middle East countries.

Bore who appeared before the National Assembly Committee on appointments on Saturday said no parent and guardian sends their child to the gulf expecting they will come back in a coffin.

"The parents don't also expect them to be mistreated. They go there to look for jobs and to improve their lifestyles. I want to promise that I will get to the bottom of this issue," she said.

Bore said many lives have been lost and that should not be the case because everyone has to be given a chance to look for ways to survive.

She said if approved, she will hold talks with people who are supposed to be responsible for the workers to see what and where to rectify.

"My first action will be to discuss with my counterparts in Saudi Arabia to see what we can do to improve the conditions of these workers," she said.

Bore further said she will ensure a safe home is created where migrant workers who are in distress can find shelter before better solutions are found.

"Once we have them, we can hold them there as we prepare to have them travel back to Kenya or even put them in other jobs."
