Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked Azimio leader Raila Odinga to slow on oversighting the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Speaking on Saturday during the launch of Thiba dam in Kirinyaga county, Gachagua said Raila abandoned his oversight role during the Jubilee reign and allowed public coffers to be looted.

He said Raila should now limit his criticism on the government of day as it tries to fix the ills perpetrated by the Jubilee administration.

"Wewe mzee wa kuzimia, unaongea mzuri sana na hiyo ndio kazi yako ya kukosoa sisi. Kama ungefanya hiyo kazi ya kukosoa serikali ya Uhuru Kenyatta, hatungefika pahali tuko," Gachagua said.

(What you are saying is very good and that's your job to correct us. Had you done your job of correcting Uhuru Kenyatta's government, we wouldn't be here today)

He said due to Raila's lull on speaking against the ills that were being done by the previous regime, the Kenya Kwanza leadership found empty coffers, so empty that even rats had taken off.

"You abandoned your duty to oversight government, serikali ikaporwa. Sasa unalalamika bei iko juu na wewe ndio uliwacha kazi yako ukawachilia wakora wakaiba pesa yote ya Kenya," he said.

(...the government was looted. Now you are complaining about high cost of living and it's you who abandoned your work and left people to loot all the money)

The Deputy President further blamed Raila for what he said was his role in misleading the government to spend Sh50 billion on the collapsed BBI.

He further claimed that Raila confused former President Uhuru Kenyatta to spend Sh200 billion to run the 'Azimio project.'

"Sasa yeye analalamika ati iko shida, si yeye ndio alichangia kwa hii shida yote?" Gachagua asked.

(He is now complaining that there is a problem, is he not the one who brought all these problems?)

The DP said in as much as Raila is dutifully performing his opposition role of oversighting the government, he should take a back seat and let the government of the day fix the problems caused by the Jubilee administration.

"Sasa wewe mzee tulio kidogo, patia sisi na William Ruto nafasi tuunde hii uchumi," he said.

(So now old man, go slow, give us space with William Ruto to fix the economy)

"Makosa huoni ile ulikosea. Anza kukosoa sisi kwa yale tunafanya. Yale mlifanya na serikali ya Jubilee, hiyo unyamaze kwa sababu wewe ndio ulichangia," Gachagua said.

(You don't see the problem you did. Start correcting us for what we are doing now. What you did with the Jubilee administration, don't talk about it because you contributed to it)

He expressed optimism that the Kenya Kwanza regime will revive the economy and make agriculture profitable again.

He said prices of farm produce such as coffee, tea and macadamia will hit a record high again.

"Tungetaka tumwambie atulie, apatie sisi nafasi tufanye kazi," Gachagua said.

(We would like to tell him to relax, give us the freedom to work)
