Ruto signs executive order organising his government

He says the assignment is reflective of Kenya Kwanza's transformative agenda.

President William Ruto has issued an Executive Order assigning specific functions to ministries and State departments.

In the order issued on Thursday, the President outlined how his government will be organised right from his office, chief of staff, ministries and principal secretaries.

Under his office which includes Chief of Staff, Head of Public Service, Secretary to the Cabinet and State House Comptroller, the President said their key functions will include overall policy direction and leadership.

The office will also be mandated with the oversight of national security organs and act as the custodian of National Security Policy and strategy.

Chief of Staff has be assigned six roles key among them being the administrative head of the Executive Office of the President.

He will also act as the co-ordinator of the Principal Secretaries Committees, promote ethics, good governance, efficiency and act as the custodian of the Kenya Public Seal and other instruments of the State for national posterity.

In the office of the deputy president which also contains principal secretaries, the head of state has assigned DP Rigathi Gachagua eight key roles.

They include deputising the President in execution of his functions, chairing of Cabinet committees and coordinating inter-governmental relations between the National Government and County governments.

Gachagua will also oversee Public Sector Reforms and any other function as may be assigned by the President.

He will also oversee the implementation of Cabinet decisions across all ministries and State Departments.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary has been assigned the role of assisting the President and the Deputy President in coordinating and supervising government ministries and State Departments.

He will also chair and co-ordinate national government legislative agenda across all ministries, chair the Principal Secretaries Committees and perform any other function as may be assigned by the President.

The nominee for the position is ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi.

If approved by Parliament, Mudavadi will also work in liaison with the ministry responsible for Interior and National Administration and oversee the implementation of national government policies, programmes and projects.
