Council of Governors chairperson Ann Waiguru on Friday used her inaugural address to the county assembly to highlight her key achievements in the last five years.

Calling for continued cooperation between the two arms of the Executive and the Assembly, Waiguru said her successes became possible because the members played their key roles effectively.

“Your oversight role improves how the governance and implementation of development programs are executed in adherence to the laid down constitutional procedures and I invite you all to play that critical role in the next five years,” said Waiguru.

The Governor said that the election of President William Ruto was, “A testimony of the confidence that Kenyans have in our Bottom-Up economic model which seeks to improve the lives of Kenyans from the household unit”.

The Kirinyaga Governor said in the last five years, they have supported close to 50,000 households, each earning 1,000 extra per day on poultry production, tomato, avocado, dairy and fish farming, bee keeping, eggs incubators as well as pig rearing.

Under the Universal Health Coverage, the county, she said, has undertaken various infrastructural and service delivery reforms.

The largest project, she noted, has been the construction of 350 bed capacity Kerugoya Level Five Hospital with an ICU, HDU, an oncology center and a modern mother and child unit.

Waiguru further stated that her administration managed to move thousands of traders from makeshift sheds to modern markets through construction of 15 modern markets across the county.

“Our win must mean better trading facilities and support for our Mama Mbogas in Kirinyaga,” she noted.

On infrastructure, the Governor noted that they have constructed around 55,000 square meters of cabro car parks and pavements in five major towns of Kerugoya, Kagio, Kutus, Kianyaga and Wang’uru, with plans underway to extend to two other towns of Kagumo and Sagana in this financial year.

“In the last five years graded close to 2,500 kilometers of roads and murramed over 500 kilometers of roads under the Nyorosha Barabara Mashinani initiative,” said Waiguru.

She added, “We have also constructed 10 bridges connecting people and homes across rivers such as Nyamindi.”

To improve access to clean water to households, the county chief, said they have already undertaken more than 60 water projects which are in use with plans to undertake more of such project to improve our water access from the current 65 percent to more than 80 percent.

Her county, she stated, recently repossessed 254 acres of land that had been illegally acquired in Sagana with plans.
