Two weeks after taking an oath of office, President William Ruto Tuesday unveiled his Cabinet members.

The list consisted of 15 men and seven women. Ruto had promised 50 per cent of Cabinet Secretary slots to women during the campaigns but he failed to keep his word.

Former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa was among the 22 nominees and was appointed to head the Public Service and Gender docket.

If approved by Parliament, she will take over from Margaret Kobia.

Aisha was born in 1975 in Coastal Kenya. She attended school at Takanga Primary School before moving to Murray Secondary School.

She then proceeded to Ganze Secondary, where she dropped out in Form Two for lack of school fees.

It was during this time that she gave birth to her firstborn before resuming school.

She later joined Jomo Kenyatta University for Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) for a Certificate in County Governance and later a Degree in Commerce from the same institution.

Before joining politics, she worked in a construction company in Kilifi.

She was a KANU party youth winger and went on to be elected as Takaunga ward councillor from 1997-2007.

She was also the chairperson of Kilifi Town Council.

She became the first Kilifi Woman Representative in 2013, which she won on an ODM party ticket. 

She was then a member of the Departmental Committee on Environment and  Natural Resources from 2013 to 2017.

Aisha was 2017  elected a member of the Kenyan Parliament representing the Malindi constituency.

As Malindi MP, served as a Commissioner in the Parliamentary Service Commission.

She was among the August 9 election losers who were lucky to get a chance in the cabinet.

She is 2022 vied for the Kilifi Gubernatorial seat but lost to Gideon Mung'aro.
