First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto on Thursday met with the UNDP Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Africa, Ahunna Eziakonwa.

She emphasized Kenya's commitment to achieving SDG 5, which deals with gender equality.

"A nation's economic development depends heavily on its women," she said.

She added that bettering the economic prospects of women improves their families, their communities, and eventually the country.

Mama Rachel pointed out that the country requires greater investment in lobbying for equitable economic opportunity for women, capacity building and particularly for women in rural areas.

She also said there is a need to boost women's economic empowerment in order to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls.
