The Commonwealth Games 3,000m steeplechase champion, Jackline Chepkoech, destroyed a star-studded field of competitors to secure a maiden Diamond League victory on Friday.

Chepkoech, 18, clocked a personal best time of 9:02.43 at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, shedding a massive 13 seconds off her time in Birmingham a month ago.

The 2021 World Athletics Championships Under-20 3,000m steeplechase champion blazed to the finish line ahead of Kenya-born Bahrain Wilfred Yavi and Ethiopian Werkuha Getachew who finished second and third in 9:03.44 and 9:08.03 respectively.

The women's 3,000m steeplechase World Athletics Under-20 champion Faith Cherotich from Kenya emerged fourth in a PB of 9:09.63.

Former World 3,000m steeplechase champion and current world record holder, Beatrice Chepkoech — appearing for the first time since Doha in May — placed 11th in 9:24.73.

Chepkoech rose to the limelight after clocking 9:15.68 to clinch the Commonwealth gold at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on August 6.

Chepkoech led at the bell in 8:01.01 before powering away from Briton Elizabeth Bird and Uganda's Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai who came in second and third in 9:17.79 and 9:23.24 respectively.
