Former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala's mother has broken her silence after the Directors of Criminal investigations officers and police raided the son's Mililani house in Kakamega.

In a video that has since gone viral, Malala's mother said that the raid was politically instigated.

“Fernandes Barasa already won as Kakamega’s Governor, let him relax. This is unfair, you cannot torture my son like this, he is not a criminal so leave him alone!”

She threatened to settle the matter in court.

Earlier, police had raided Malala's home at 1:30 pm allegedly to arrest him.

Police sources said the former senator was wanted for assaulting politician Joseph Oyolo during the Kakamega governor election.

They found the gate locked and gained access by breaking off the padlocks.

The officers both in plain clothes and uniformed from both general and DCI were around 40 in number.

A senior police officer declined to give details but said, "police officers cannot just come to your place when there's nothing".
