Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua who was voted back in the August 9 general election has thanked residents saying he was overwhelmed by the huge number of votes he received at the polls.
“The landslide victory I earned exceeded my expectation. It was an exceptional show of immeasurable love for me. Sincerely, I wonder what I can ever do to commensurately pay back the Kitui people for my resounding victory,” Wambua said.
The senator was speaking at the Kavisuni African Inland Church in Kitui Rural subcounty when he joined the faithful during a thanksgiving prayer session that was led by Rev James Wathome.
“God has given us the opportunity to come and celebrate my victory, which he added had a strong hand of God. Truly, it was God given victory,” the senator said as he addressed the church members.
The Kitui county returning officer Macharia Gichichi announced Wambua of the Wiper party the winner of the Kitui senatorial race with 191,317 votes in a crowded field of eight other contestants who sought to dislodge him.
The runners-up in the duel was UDA’s Stephen Kilonzo with 49,064 votes followed by Narc’s Munde Mutukaa with 32,205 votes, while Wilfred Mati got 23,955 votes in third position.
“Imagine a gap of nearly 150,000 votes between yours truly and the person who came second,” Wambua said.
He also said that since Kitui county is very expansive, he was not able to get to every part of the area, but still he got votes in all areas.
“There are places in Kitui I was unable to reach during campaigns, including Kavisuni. But I delved in prayer and asked God to intercede. He answered my prayers,” the senator said.
Wambua asked church members to pray for him so that God gives him wisdom and knowledge to serve the people of Kitui diligently.
“When people see me, they should not see the senator but see what the hand of God has created for them,” he said.
