President Uhuru Kenyatta's sister Christine Pratt has said it is only God who knows how Kajiado Governor Joseph Lenku won the seat.
Pratt said she has followed Lenku from when Uhuru appointed him as Interior CS after the 2013 general election.
She graced Lenku's swearing in ceremony in Kajiado on Thursday.
“After you were appointed as CS, you were ridiculed by everyone. It is only God who knows how you survived,” Pratt said.
She said in 2017 Lenku made a stab at the governor's seat and everyone was sceptical that he would make it against other political giants but he won.
“Recently, before the August 9 general election, everyone seemed to be against you but you made it,” Pratt said.
She said Lenku silenced the naysayers because God stood by him, and defeated all the political giants who had ganged up to topple him.
“Many doubting Thomases in the last general election can now attest that your leadership is God-given,” she said.
Speaking after Lenku had been sworn in, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka exuded confidence that Azimio’s leader Raila Odinga will overturn William Ruto’s win and will be declared the winner.
“I have looked at our court documents very keenly and as a senior lawyer, I assure you that in the next 12 days, the Supreme Court will announce Raila as the winner,” Kalonzo said.
Maina Njenga, the leader of the defunct Mungiki sect, also said his people campaigned for Lenku vigorously and ensured his win.
Other dignitaries who spoke included Andrew Sunkuli from Narok, who lost to Ledama ole Kina in the senatorial race.
Lenku was surprised that Pratt knows him so well to even remember what he went through after he was appointed to serve in Uhuru’s government.
“I do not want to repeat what she has told you. God has been on my side,” he said.
The governor said he plans to raise scholarship funds from Sh50 million to Sh150 million and raise the number of people with NHIF cards to 50,000.
Lenku said he managed to help 30,000 farmers to get land titles and employed 1,000 ECD teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.
