Former Tullow Oil director appointed KAM chief executive

The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Board has appointed former Tullow Oil director Anthony Mwangi as the chief executive officer.

Effective September 15, Mwangi will succeed Phyllis Wakiaga who stepped down in April.

Tobias Alando, who has been holding the position in acting capacity in the past fie months will move to be the Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Prior to his appointment, Mwangi worked as Bolt head of public policy since November 2020.

He also previously worked at IBM and Kenya Airways in various capacities.

Speaking on Mwangi’s appointment, KAM chairman, Rajan Shah expressed his optimism, saying, "We are excited to have Mwangi on board, following a rigorous recruitment process,"

"Our focus remains on efficient service delivery to our Members and advocating for an enabling environment for a competitive manufacturing sector,” he added.

With over 20 years of work experience, Mwangi brings on board a wealth of expertise in public policy, government relations, stakeholder engagement, communications and business development cutting across the Transportation, ICT, Aviation, and Oil and Gas industries.

Welcoming his new role, the incoming CEO, Mwangi said he is committed to continue steering the Association in advocating for an enabling business environment.

"I’m excited to take up the new role. I shall work closely with all stakeholders to increase the efficiency and productivity of the local manufacturing sector and drive export-led growth,” Mwangi said.

He also announced his interest in reducing the regulatory burden and ease the cost of doing business and advocate for a stable tax environment and policy.

Mwangi has a Masters’ Degree in Public Policy and Management from Strathmore Business School, a Bachelor's degree from University of Nairobi and a Certificate of Public Policy from New York University (NYU).

He will be responsible for managing the Association’s day-to-day administrative and operational functions, designing members’ services and strategic development and implementation of policies.
