Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati has said he is confident the commission's measures of having transparent elections will serve as a way to avoid candidates running to court.

Speaking during a prayer breakfast meeting on Wednesday, Chebukati said the election will be at the polling station and it will start and end there, and results will also be announced there.

"We have allowed them to take photos of the results, those who are agents, observers and even the media, and if there are available results form, they can also be given out," he said.

"You will know your results at the polling station, and you can also have your parallel vote tallying and also total your results, to avoid the issue of a candidate claiming they don’t know their results."

Chebukati said he believes with the measures in place, there will be less dispute and people should remain peaceful after the announcement and declaration of winners.

Chebukati further said there are over 16,000 candidates in this election and they are competing for 1,882 seats.

He added there will be 14,000 people who will either accept or be unhappy about the results.

"I ask the Church to encourage them to follow the right channels, to use mechanism available, dispute resolution through petitions, as opposed to inciting and causing violence," he said.
