A man from Kibera, Nairobi, was Tuesday arraigned for allegedly mobilizing a group of 100 men to assault a police officer.

Police constable John Mutegi and his colleagues had acted on an intelligence report when they visited Kibera to arrest Benard Moyi, alias Tiger, who was accused of selling bhang.

It is when making the arrest that Tiger allegedly mobilised a group to attack them.

During the raid, a police radio, handcuffs and a Jericho gun were stolen.

The charge sheet indicates that the accused person committed the offence on April 13 at Mashimoni in Kibra Sub-county within Nairobi County.

Tiger is said to have been armed with pangas and rungus alongside others who were not before the court.

The stolen  Jericho pistol S/NO.41310527 had been loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition of 9mm ammunition.

He denied the charges before Kibera chief magistrate Ann Mwangi.

He also denied the second count of possessing over 600 rolls of bhang contrary to the penal code.

The case took a turn when the man accused the police of stealing his cash.

Through his lawyer Mr Aswan, Tiger told the court that the police stole his Sh1.2 million that was in custody.

The lawyer urged the court to summon the officer in the case to shade light where the money went to.

The magistrate directed the officer to appear in court as requested by the defence when the case will be mentioned.

The magistrate released the suspect on Sh1 million bond with the surety of the same amount.

The suspect was directed to make an application to the trial court if he wished to be released on cash bail.
