Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika has picked David Kones as her running mate in the Nakuru governor race.

Speaking on Monday, Kihika said her selection followed the vetting of at least 16 candidates.

"After going through a rigorous exercise, we have nominated David Kones. He will be my running mate for the gubernatorial seat for Nakuru County under UDA and Kenya Kwanza coalition," she said.

"We have been having a few weeks of back and forth interviews and vetting of extremely qualified candidates who had offered to be my running mate."

Kihika thanked all those who presented themselves in a bid to deputise her if elected governor of Nakuru County.

Kones is an educationist and hails from Kiptagich in Kuresoi South.

Kones is a former High School Principal, is a clergyman and has a degree in conflict.

All the deputy governors in Nakuru County since the inception of devolution in 2013 have come from Kuresoi as different administrations try to balance the ethnicity balance.

Kihika is the main contender against the incumbent, Governor Lee Kinyanjui who is defending his seat on a Jubilee ticket.

She is also the incumbent Senator for Nakuru
