Transport along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway was temporarily paralysed on Friday after a motorist hit and killed a pupil near Nyamathi centre, 10km from Naivasha town.
The Grade 6 pupil was from Milimani Primary School.
The girl, who was crossing the busy highway to join her friends, died on the spot.
Witness Sam Mburu said after hitting the girl, the driver of the car sped off towards Nakuru.
“The girl dashed across the road without checking and the car, which was speeding, hit and killed her on the spot,” he said.
Naivasha police boss Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident. He said the body was taken to the subcounty hospital mortuary.
“We are asking members of the public who witnessed the incident to volunteer information so we can arrest the driver,” he said.
The accident came barely two weeks after a girl from the school committed suicide.
Meanwhile, a cleric whose body was found locked in his house in Mai Mahiu a week ago was killed using a blunt object. The deceased lived alone. A postmortem established that he had injuries on the back of the head.
The body of the deceased, who was involved in a wrangle with third parties over ownership of a car, was found in the house after he had been missing for five days.
Waweru said an inquest file had been opened but no arrest has been made.
He said investigating officers are following some leads.
“The detectives are confident that it’s a matter of time before they catch up with those involved in the murder,” Waweru said.
