17 people who went missing in Marsabit rescued alive

At least 17 people who were missing after an attack in Marsabit have been rescued alive.

The 17 went missing after an ambush on government officials in Laisamis in Marsabit that left five dead including a Chief and an Assistant Chief.

The Loglogo Member of County Assembly Bernard Leakano is among those who were rescued on Friday afternoon. He had no injuries. 

Police said the operation was conducted in Salmati area where the victims were hiding. 

The injured were taken to a local hospital while the rest were released after a debrief. 

The bodies of the five were found in two cars that had been abandoned on the road after the shooting. 

National Police Service Spokesperson Bruno Shioso said the incident is connected to a recurring feud between two communities in the area.
