CJ Koome, Matiang'i pay tribute to Kibaki

The CJ added that her journey to her current position began in 2003 when Kibaki appointed her as a High Court Judge.

Chief Justice Martha Koome has paid her tribute to the late former President Mwai Kibaki.

The announcement of his death was issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday.

"The Judiciary of Kenya joins the nation and indeed the World in mourning H.E Mwai Kibaki," Koome expressed.

The Interior CS Fred Matiang'i also joined in to mourn the former President.

"I will remember Mzee Kibaki for his unique and admirable style of leadership that singularly focused on the effective management of the affairs of our great nation," he said.

Koome reiterated that Kibaki will be remembered for unique leadership style adding that it is his reformist lead that the 2010 constitution was implemented.

The CJ added that her journey to her current position began in 2003 when the third president appointed her as a High Court Judge.

"He will be remembered for his bold, sometimes painful for those affected but necessary interventions to all institutions including the Judicial," the CJ added.

Further, Koome affirmed that the Governance Justice Law and Order Sector program  was initiated during the Kibaki's tenure.

"It resulted to the establishment of the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ), which has enjoined the efforts of actors in the justice sector towards effective administration."

Matiang'i said that Kibaki was a sober and reflective statesman who shunned disrespect in public service.

"His legendary intolerance for political pettiness and side-shows in favor of national development priorities will remain an entrenched legacy worth of admiration and emulation."

Koome has challenged Kenyans to extend each other truth, reconciliation, peace and justice saying these values marked the leadership of Kibaki.
