The political atmosphere right now is very good as there are no overwhelming emotions evoked in the campaigns. Nobody really cares about ODM leader Raila Odinga or DP William Ruto. In an emotional sense, we have no need to worry.
However, politicians are becoming aware that the lack of emotions will work against them. So they are trying to generate emotions. Raila being stoned in an airborne helicopter must be thoroughly investigated.
The only thing that would exonerate the government and Raila from suspicions they may have organised the incident is to arrest the criminals and drag them to court
Nearly all choppers are fitted by cameras that should have captured the criminals involved in stoning. We must wait till Monday to know who did this. If they don’t appear, then we have to know politicians have started injecting emotions and that will not be nice.
This would mean those who will be rejected at the polls will get gravitas. Without emotions, nobody will care whether they lose or not.
Right now, we are very peaceful. This election may surprise everybody by becoming the most peaceful in independent Kenya. There are no clear crevices. We pray that between now and polling day, nobody will create events introducing cleavages.
On the chopper attack, the only thing that would exonerate the government and Raila from suspicions they may have organised the incident is to arrest the criminals and drag them to court.
After that, get those who sent them and take them to court. If they fail to do that, the conclusion would be that the government plus Raila organised the madness.
As a researcher, I look at the facts and ask what they are telling me. Every time the President is not interested in an election — leaving office — there has been no violence.
There was none in 2002 and2013. In 2007 when Mwai Kibaki wanted to come back, there was no violence. This tells us it is government that creates violence, not individual Kenyans.
Thus, this is a test for the President. Those who stoned the chopper were on camera. We ask this government to give us a peaceful election. They should protect us since we want to live in harmony as we have no problem among us as Kenyans. We therefore want the 17 arrested people in court.
