Kenya Kwanza Alliance now wants to move a motion in Parliament compelling the Auditor General to investigate the public funds used on the Building Bridges Initiate (BBI) plan.

In a press release statement on Friday, the allied MPs want the Auditor General to carry out a forensic audit on the BBI bill, claiming that the Kenyan money used in its campaigns and planning was unconstitutional.

"It is important to note that the public funds used in the unconstitutional process were not appropriated by the National Assembly for that purpose but were rather an illegal diversion of public funds," the statement read.

"We are aware that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) task force spent approximately Sh10 billion of public money in hotels purportedly for collecting public views," it stated.

The Alliance claims that it is aware of the Accounting Officers who violated a section of the Public Finance Management Act of 2012 by using public funds to finance the expenses for the popularization of the BBI.

The Alliance said that the Supreme Court had done its part and the Audit General should now investigate the public funds.

"While the Supreme Court has decisively dealt with the unconstitutionality of the BBI circus, the determination of prudence in the use of public funds in the illegality is placed under the ambit of the Auditor-General as per Article 229 (5) of the Constitution."

The MPs further added that the Auditor General is required by the constitution to heed the parliament's request.

Kenya Kwanza leaders also claim that the same process of misusing funds used in BBI was now being used in Azimio la Umoja.

"It is evident that the same arrogance meted upon Kenyans on BBI is well coined in Azimio where public funds are now openly being used to fund Azimio campaign activities," they said.

The Alliance has lauded the judges who ruled against the constitutional amendment and vowed to lead Kenyans with honor.

"We in Kenya Kwanza are committed to leading Kenyans to dance to the new tune. We are committed to ensuring each Kenyan has their dignity intact."
